Klondykers

At Ullapool Museum today for the opening of their exhibition on the Ullapool Klondykers - factory ships from Eastern Europe and the then USSR who were a big part of life on Loch Broom in the 1980s.

Lots of people there who were involved in local shops and supply boats with pictures and memories of mammoth orders of food and electronics and more than a few tales of vodka parties on board, visits by classical musicians (who were taken by boat out to perform for the foreign crews) and friendships formed across the iron curtain.
