Park End

This rather interesting stone building caught my eye  as I was walking through Penicuik on my way home and when I stopped to take a few photos I got a friendly (and a bit grimy) local tell me the story about how it used to be workers' quarters for the paper mill that used to be just down the road from it. Because it was the accommodation for single women only, it was called 'a nunnery'. The official name is Park End and you can see it on top of the gateway.

I didn't have much time to verify these informations but it seems there used to be a few paper mills in the area so it all sounds plausible.

Hail the friendly locals!
