Loch Leven Castle

Here is the tower where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned. The castle is on an island, completely surrounded by Loch Leven. Historic Scotland run a shuttle boat service from Kinross to take visitors to see the castle.

It's a lovely romantic story - although I suppose Mary Queen of Scots didn't enjoy it much. She was confined here for a year - during which time she miscarried twins (not a lot of people know that). Her captors celebrated the coronation of her infant son, James VI when she was forced to abdicate in his favour. Eventually, she escaped with the help of a young boy, Willie Douglas - and never returned.
