Lady's Slipper Orchids

Hurray. The first ones are open. This is Cypripedium parviflora var, Giselle. This is in Knottman's garden growing on limestone in a north facing semi shaded position. This and other varieties are grown by Mrs. K.

This is not a wild variety. It is a hybrid which was raised from seed by a friend in Arnside and bought by us as rootstock. To see the whole plant look at the Extra photo. ( It worked yesterday so I will try again today).

I hope in the next week to show blips of the wild variety Cypripedium calceolis and talk about the attempts to reintroduce them into the English countryside.
