Door of a Trapdoor Spider

The door of trapdoor spider was found during a bird walk on the Reserve.  This particular place was still occupied so we did not disturb it.  The hinge of the door is the straight portion near the top.

The spider waits in its home until it feels the vibration of potential prey.  Once the prey has been captured it returns to its burrow to eat in relative safety.
