The Gathering

Visited the Ythan Estuary and walked along the south shore. Apart from the hundreds of seals and eider ducks I spotted this interesting phenomenon which I've never seen before. I was attracted by the squawking of black headed gulls and terns in an isolated pool left when the tided receded. Obviously there were fish trapped and the gulls and terns were having a feeding frenzy. The terns were diving into the pool and coming up with small fish. The gulls just hung around looking a bit stupid. Added some pictures of the frenzy and some diving terns and an oyster catcher I saw on the way home.
