A fire engine in Dublin

Hundreds gathered at Dublin Castle this afternoon to share and celebrate the news that Ireland had voted yes to equal marriage.

We arrived just as the crowds were heading out into the streets and what a sight it was.

People old and young beaming with pride, much laughter and even a few tears.

Passing cars and buses pressed their horns in support, resulting in huge cheers from the many who had gathered.

In the end it was the siren of a passing fire engine - switched on in support of equality, the fire fighters waving as they passed by - which was almost too much for me.

Some days we're allowed to be a little teary eyed, right?
