The last few dark hours

Of course I'm glad that Summer is about to begin.

But for me there's always this slight "melancholy of renunciation" too, because - as a nocturnal person, I have learned to like the nightly darkness.

Life is so different in darkness. Everything is slowlier, safer, softer and you can surround yourself with comforting, cosy lights: create beauty with candles, lights and shadows, lava lamps, colourful lampshades...

But when the nights are just as light as days, you don't need any other lights. You don't enjoy your artificial light shows as much as you do in dark times...

But then again, instead of staring at the candle lights, you want to stare out of the window, the light Summer sky.

It's so beautiful, and it only lasts like two months.

So goodbye candles and lanterns, for awhile. - It's summertime and the living is easy.
