Another weekend, another marathon

So, off we strolled this morning so that Mme Tepeka could take part in the Newry Marathon. (Just for the sake of clarity, neither of the people in the picture is her.) And it was worth the early start, as she managed her first sub-four-hour marathon! To say she's delighted with herself would be the biggest understatement of all time. She's a superstar. Insane, but a superstar.

Newry was by far the smallest marathon she's ever done - there were only 148 entrants (and Mme Tepeka's bib number was 148 as she only registered the other day). Even with the half-marathon and 10km race, there were fewer than 900 runners.

It made a bit of a change from some of the massive marathons we've been to where we've had to struggle for an hour to meet up afterwards. Here, I could stand on the course just after the finish line and greet her as soon as she crossed. Much nicer.

And it was a really friendly marathon too. There were hardly any spectators, but those who were there were enthusiastic and loud, and the runners seemed to be encouraging and helping each other as well.

Not the worst way to spend a Sunday morning.
