Lala's Journal

Boys

Today is my #1 son's birthday. He uses Facebook occasionally and I thought it would be fun to embarrass him with a birth day photo!

Regular readers will know we are moving soon and the photos were all gone through, sorted and boxed a couple of months back. I decided to take one handful of the loose photos and see if there was anything suitable.

No embarrassing birth photo, but I found an equally precious photo, pictured. Taken approximately 28 years ago as son went 'over the bridge' from Cubs to Scouts. Son on the right and his friend Jody on the left. They first met at Nursery, and remained friends through to adulthood, as did almost all the Nursery. As I write, son and about 8 of that group are partying, with their children who in turn are all friends.

However they are minus Jody, who passed away last year as a result of Motor Neurone Disease, the cruelest of diseases. During the last year of his life, Jody raised a huge amount of money for MNDA and his friends continue to raise money for them in Jody's name. A couple of weeks ago MNDA presented Jody's family with a trophy for the local Scout group to be known as the Jody Duff Trophy. It will be presented annually to a Cub or Scout who has overcome adversity.

Happy birthday Son, RIP Jody.
