MonoMonday:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I have just seen the contribution from hobbs and nearly fell off my chair laughing.

This is very lame in comparison, but not having read the book or seen the film (or been able to make any sense of what I found on the web) this is what comes to my mind when I think of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." I was on the lookout for a hitchhiker but none materialised.
