Disappointment

Mark Knopfler has been one of my all time favourite musicians for more years than I care to remember. Every time we go to see him, we are blown away with how amazing he and his band play, and the perfect blend of sounds.

Which made Friday all the more disappointing at the O2. They all looked and sounded very tired (Mark himself speaks like he's suffered a minor stroke), and under-rehearsed.
Early on, Privateering fell apart near the end (I thought somebody had pulled a lead out by accident); You could barely hear the other musicians over the volume of Mark's guitar and the drum kit; "One more time" was interpreted differently by the band members at the end of one song; Ruth Moody was virtually inaudible for her guest spot; The bass player seemed to be playing random notes at the end of Sultans of Swing - although that is a bit iffy these days anyway as Mark sounds a bit past playing at that speed.

It might sound a bit nit-picky, but we normally get perfection - and that's why I love hearing the band so much. At least I got some nice pictures.
