Chinese House

This building only makes an appearance in the summer months because it is wrapped up for the winter for protection against the weather. It was built for the Richard Grenville, Earl Temple, in1738 to decorate his gardens at Stowe and was moved around the estate, sometimes sitting on stilts in a pond. It had disappeared by 1751 and moved to another of the Duke's houses then to Ireland. It was discovered and returned to Stowe in the 1990s where the National Trust restored it.
