Reels of cotton?

People often talk about a reel of cotton and although you can still buy cotton, polyester thread is actually the one most often used.  

Reels of thread are still a delight to the eye and nowadays you can buy three different colours on the same reel as I discovered recently.  Perfect for free hand embroidery!
