Butter-fly

There is a view that the word 'butterfly' originates from the yellow colour of male Brimstones, which are certainly unique in the British fauna. We saw both males and females today, as well as a range of other butterflies including Wall Brown, which have declined significantly over recent decades. It was our last day of monitoring at Whitemoor until July - the site seems to get bigger every year, or perhaps I'm just getting older!

Visiting Tesco immediately after surveying proved to be a bad idea. Tired and hungry, we ended up with a basket full of Japanese beer, wine and chocolate, as well as the bottle of hoi-sin sauce that we went in to buy! However, we did have a tofu and cashew nut stir-fry for dinner, followed by strawberries, which restored the balance a bit.
