Setting the stage

I had a great morning with members of the QPCC today, with access to all areas of the Govanhill Baths, as part of a summer project with which we are involved.

Its a fascinating place, now run by a Community Trust, who were not able to save the baths from closing, but were able to save it from demolition.

There were three swimming pools, an area full of cubicles with baths, and there was also a steamie. They are hoping to open a couple of the baths in the next couple of years, and the old bath houses are going to be converted into greenhouse allotments.

In the meantime they run a wide range of classes for the community, stage events, store film & theatre props and allow it to be used for filming.

The main photo is of the stage area. The set up was my idea, having noticed the book and the microphone as I wandered around, but one of the experienced camera club members very patiently instructed me to help create the atmosphere.

The extra photo is of the main swimming pool; there was a wedding in it last week which is why it has flowers around the edges - apparently the bride had learnt to swim there. I'm pretty sure it has also featured in some gruesome Taggart set in the past too, though!
