Ramblings and Mutterings

Llyn Y Fan Fach

Rounded off this week with another epic walk, this time in the Western Beacons with one of my best buddies, Gareth.  With his family commitments he doesn’t get much chance to get out these days, so today was a walk we’d been trying to plan for weeks.  Especially since I’ve lost a lot of walking friends.

We parked up at Craig yr Nos and then climbed up.  We started off late because of his fatherly duties in the morning, so we weren’t entirely sure whether we were going to have time to do all of the walk we had planned.  But we made good time, especially considering how much I’ve walked this week, I was surprised there was so much left in the tank.

In the end we walked over 5 hours and climbed a number of peaks, Bannau Sir Gaer, Picws Du, Fan Foel, Fan Brycheiniog and Fan Hir.  An epic walk with some stunning views across the Brecon Beacons.  We had a great laugh along the way, if only we could walk more.  Next week I return to Billy No Mates.

This is the view at the start of Bannau Sir Gaer all along the ridge, the lake below is Llyn Y Fan Fach and here is the folklore story behind it.
