Charlie Kennedy.

It was sad this morning, to read that ex-MP Charlie Kennedy has died, at the age of 55.

No matter what your political affiliations, I think most people would agree that he was an intelligent, principled man, with a fabulous sense of humour. Question Time was always much more fun when he was on.

I saw him once, on the train to the Highlands. He got off at Fort William without his briefcase, but for a man who was a bit chunky, he didn't half sprint back up the platform once he realised he'd left it behind.

People actually cheered as he retrieved his bag with about 2 seconds to spare, and everyone waved as he got off again, leaving behind a carriage of smiling passengers.

I hope that wherever he is now, he finds peace and can finally escape his 'demons' as the press like to call alcoholism. He was a good guy who did his best.....not something one can say about every politician.....
