New Year, New Life

Curious chalk markings

St Stephen's Church, Rochester Row, Victoria.

What has happened to the summer? Blustery and a bit wet today. I was wearing a coat, scarf and hat when I went out! It did brighten up a bit later and is supposed to be improving later in the week.  Let's hope!

Not surprisingly, in view of the weather, there were no takers for our Victoria lunchtime walk but as I was there I researched the route for the walk I'm planning about schools.  It looks at how the green coat, brown coat, black coat, grey coat and blue coat charity schools founded in the C17 became today's academy schools - Westminster City School and Grey Coat Hospital School (where DC's daughter is a pupil).

St Stephen's Church and adjoining school were founded by Angela Burdett Coutts, the richest woman in England at the time, so she gets a look in too.

Victoria is such a fascinating area once you delve under the current rash of glass and steel...
