CYPRUS CACTUS

Our trip today took us to Kolossi Castle where we were able to climb a stone spiral staircase up to the roof and enjoyed beautiful views of the surrounding area. Next stop was Kourion which is one of the most impressive archeological sites in Cyprus. It has a classic Greco-Roman amphitheatre facing out to sea which is still used for concerts to this day. Next to the amphitheatre we were able to look at the remains of 5th century Roman baths and mosaics. After a visit and coffee at the traditional village of Omodos, we headed into the Troodos Mountains to Apsiou were we stopped at a local taverna for a delicious three course lunch. This is where I spotted the flowering cactus and thought it would make a suitable entry for Flower Friday. Before heading back to our resort we stopped again at Monagri where we sampled Loukoumades, a traditional delicacy of deep fried dough balls soaked in honey. This was washed down with a glass of the local fire water called Zivania. A very full and enjoyable day out on the island!
