All the Fun of the Fair

Ramadan approaches and the shops in Cairo are dressed up to the nines with canopies and tent trimmings in the bold colourful Ramadan designs. All the traditional goodies are on display including large folded over slabs of apricot paste . . . yum!

Street fairs also appear and one gets a real sense of how this religious time imprints itself in the memories of children as special times, just like summer fayres do in western cultures,
