Onions

A few days of warm weather have caused everything in the garden to either die or run riot. I was out before the sun hit the back garden  to tackle the plants which are taking over after less than a year. Here is a shot of the way it looked less than a year ago. Now the plants that are still in pots in that shot have grown over all the rocks and are invading the yuccas.

When the sun hit the clover plants which were in turn taken over by bees who wouldn't take kindly to having their clover blossoms yanked out from under them, I gave up and decided to try some close-up shots of plants I'm not particularly fond of to see what happened. The result was a bunch of close up pictures of plants I'm not particularly fond of, so I repaired to the porch with my coffee and English muffin.

I had to abandon the porch when they began spreading asphalt on the neighbors' new driveway and the smell of heated petroleum  byproduct began drifting my way.

Later, OilMan came home from the self described worst game of golf he had played in years and fell asleep on the couch. Blake and Ozzie fell asleep at my feet while I attempted yet again to delve into the deeper meaning of the dials and ikons on my camera. Today was Blake's last day with us, at least until fall when school starts again. I'll miss him.

I was making potato salad for the barbecue we are going to at the neighbors'  (not the ones with the new driveway), when OilMan appeared with onions he had pulled from the garden. To use a word that everybody seems to be using to describe just about anything or anybody these days, they looked "authentic", and I took their picture just as they were on the kitchen counter.

They are now one more ingredient in an "authentic" potato salad. Soon we will have our own green beans to add to it as well

Even though it's not much different from any other day for people of our age and station, I still harbor the same associations with the days of the week as we had in our working and child raising days, and I'm glad it's Friday….
