Autumn in Spring

Autumn comes to the desert in June.  Dried seed pods of an unknown flowering plant in the community garden.  One more sign nearly all life is preparing to go dormant to evade not winter's cold but summer's desiccating dryness and oppressive heat.  It gets so hot here that any plant pollen still around is essentially killed by the heat, so flowers would be a useless waste of energy and water in the summer.
