Fisherfolk memorial

We walked from Grantshouse to Cove today, on the east coast, through the Pease Dean Nature Reserve to Pease Bay where there is a huge caravan park, then up the hill towards the village of Cove.  The wind was very strong, so strong that we could not go along the cliff top as it would have too dangerous with the gusts of wind.

At Cove there is this very poignant little memorial to the fisherfolk of Cove, who in a big storm on 14th October, 1881, lost 11 out of their 21 fisherman from the village.  The memorial depicts the women and children looking out to sea.  It was a tough life for fisherfolk.
