In search of butterflies

It was Butterfly Education and awareness day today . It takes place n the first Saturday of June. The idea is to raise awareness of the importance of butterflies as pollinators and promoting butterfly habitats both in the garden and countryside. You do nt have to have a large garden to attract butterflies as they eat nectar from a variety of flowers , abit of warmth and sunshine helps too.
We thought we would go on a butterfly hunt as part of our ' random act of wildness' today.
It was very windy, too windy for David to go to work on his bike so we dropped him off and after breakfast at Daviot Dairy we went to Daviot woods for a walk. We have  been past it several times but never stopped.
We had a pleasant walk through mature pines, past small ponds and health land. Some of the area had been burnt by a wildfire in April this year and you could still see the charred gorse bushes and trees but it was surprising how quickly the area was regenerating.
We walked back up a military road where we listened to a yellowhammer singing on a wall. I saw a newt in one of the ponds and several butterflies  including two peacocks and what I think was a green veined white. I did nt really expect to see any as the wind was still strong with a few scattered showers.
