A Bee Or Not A Bee

I was on the road early today as I had to meet my sister at a flower wholesalers near Colchester. We travelled in convoy along country lanes from there to her house in Burnham, passing through lovely Essex villages including Coggeshall, Braxted and Great Totham. Would have loved to have stopped for pics but we were on a mission.

We sorted lots, I could hardly keep my eyes open driving home. I shot this insect down my field as the light was fading. It looks quite wasp-like but I think it might be a solitary bee. Too tired to research it properly.
