Valhalla stood...

for close to a hundred years. The fertile soil grew crops that fed thousands. In the fall of last year these buildings as well as the homestead, unlived in for 20 some years, were returned to the earth first by fire and then by bulldozer so that a new farming family could begin their life here. I photographed every building with digital and film (Yashica D TLR) for the remaining family. This piece is the first in my series, created in encaustic.  Only fitting for encaustic means "to burn in" and that was exactly what happened to these buildings...
