Quod oculus meus videt

Another Day, Another Wedding

Quite an eventful day at sea.  Towards the end we met up with our dinner table partners and had an early evening drink at the top of the ship.  It had clouded over but was still warm.  I was distracted by some ripples in the water beneath us, only to see dolphins start jumping over the waves caused by the ship's passing.  Much too far away to capture, especially as I had the fisheye lens on the camera!  Just then we were passed by a wedding party.  When we mentioned dolphins they stopped to look, giving the opportunity for the image.

Just after the sky went very black and an electric storm started in the distance.  I managed to get one or two shots with lightning bolts arcing from the sky to the sea, using a neat function on the camera called live composite.  I tried to post it as an extra image but for some reason this doesn't seem to be available using the iPad.  The sensor on the camera remains open, but only registers highlights after the initial exposure.  Really useful for things like lightning and fireworks.

Still struggling with Internet access and am posting this at a cafe in Civitavecchia, using free wifi .
