The Motherwell Tree

I was over in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, this afternoon for work, meeting up with social work to discuss the SPSP-Mental Health programme I work on. The meeting went well, with lots of good sharing and ideas.

Here is a blip of the 'Motherwell Tree'.

The 'Motherwell Tree' was first displayed at the Glasgow Garden Festival (1988).

The material and colour were designed to commemorate the local steelworks.

The sculture, with the wee birds perched on the branches - George Wyllie, who designed it,
said they were having a union meeting -
is now in Merry Street Pedestrian Precinct, and the tree stumps around it form a meeting/sitting place.

Its restoration was part of the refurbishment of Motherwell town centre in 2010.

Motherwell is a town with a proud industrial history, and a town that today is making every effort to survive and thrive.

I hope you have all had a good start to the week.
