But, then again . . . . .

Fassli Falls.

Today managed to be both fantastic and a disappointment. The disappointment first, we had booked a hike over the glaciers, there was going to be eight hours of fun: a fifteen mile coach trip from our port of call (Eidfjiord) and meeting up with the boat at a Jodfjord half way towards the sea. Unfortunately, we were the only two signed up for the trip and so it was cancelled and we had to substitute an alternative outing, a coach ride up to our original start point with a couple of stops on the way. The weather had closed in and I was looking forward to some misty views without the un-naturally blue skies that I have had so much difficulty handling in Photoshop. By the time we were ashore most of the mist had lifted and we seemed due for yet more bright sunny weather. The first extra is of the back-end of what our captain calls “The Old Lady” (now where have I heard that name before?) and the last of the mist.

The first stop was at the Hardangervidda Nature Centre, there was a good video to watch and time to grab a quick cup of take-away revolting coffee. The only sign of wild life here was the four miniature goats grazing on a grass roof with an electric fence to stop them falling off. There is a little one coyly hiding behind the two on the right in the second extra.

Next was Fassli Falls, there is a spectacular view of them from a car park about half a mile down the road from the hotel where we did stop; I didn’t manage a picture as the coach hurried past. Having taken the statutory pictures from the hotel, we bought ice-creams from the tourist shop by which time visibility had suddenly disappeared, so I rushed back to repeat my previous shots.

Finally, it was on to one of the two dams (Rudavatn & Langavatn) that provide water for the underground hydro electric power station at Lang Sima with more spectacular views and a taste of what might have been. The final extra is from the dam but doesn't do justice to the view. Such is the nature of package tours.
