A tree?

I am a little confused.

I went out for a shot of the mudflats surrounding the great salt lake. 

And what do I find.  A tree stump.

As I look around, there is not another tree for miles.

This stump must have floated here.  But it kind of looks like it belongs, if it wasn't so out of place.  If that makes any sense???
