Willow Stag Sculpture

Drove out to Glen Esk this morning (Pam driving) to have lunch at The Retreat only to find it was swamped by a coach crowd. A very nice Waitress said if we would like to wait half-an-hour she could probably find a table for us.  We waited a while looking round the grounds and I saw this magnificent Stag. The Willow Stag Sculpture (created by Sculpture Trevor Leat) stands in the grounds of The Retreat, which is situated near the head of Glen Esk at Tarfside. The Rereat contains the Glenesk Folk Museum, a Gift Shop, Restaurant and an exhibition area. We decided not to wait and so headed off back to Edzell and had lunch at Edzell Tweed Warehouse. My pudding was a Rhubard, Strawberry and Blueberry Crumble with Ice Cream. I thought it was an unusual mixture of fruit, but it was delicious. The Waitress had a big beam on her face when she told us that she didn’t like rhubarb but loved this Crumble – so I took the chance and am so glad I did. Would go again!  The extra explain the Nature Trail.
