I Am Not Lost

garden state is literally a terrible movie

today at work we counted and sorted 5000 beetles
actually more than 5000
anyway i'm here to tell you why garden state is literally the most problematic movie ever. first of all, sam (natalie portman's character_ is a complete manic pixie dream girl with 0 character development. she's quirky and cute but has no depth and!!!!!!! i'm sick of seeing female characters who have no depth!!!!!!!!!!! gosh!!!!!!!!

moving on, the movie takes a really terrible and unrealistic view on mental illness. so, for example, like, andrew (zach braff's character) just stops taking his psychiatric medication cold turkey and is completely okay! wow. this is definitely completely how the Real World Works. later in the movie, andrew describes his medication as making him numb all the time, which, while that can be true, perpetuates a super negative stereotype about psychiatric medication. also, his character overcomes his mental illness because of sam being in his life for four days, which is also, once again, how the Real World Definitely Works.

if this wasn't enough!!!! the movie uses ableist slurs and jokes multiple times. cool

anyway this movie was literally so problematic, why are people obsessed with it, besides the fact that the shins are featured heavily and the soundtrack is mad dec, -19/10
