My old Gordon Smith electric guitar, untouched for eleven years until I fished it out to chop off a few chords on the rusted strings. The news has come through that I've been shortlisted for this year's Bristol Short Story Prize, which gets me publication in the BSSP Anthology, and I'm in with a shout of winning the award itself. Fantastic news for my writing career, but I can't help wondering what direction my life would have taken if I hadn't swapped guitar for "keyboard"...
