Buff-tip moth

A strange cross between teddy bear, French poodle and broken birch twig, the Buff-tip is unmistakable. Its resemblance to a broken twig is remarkable (see extra photo) and certainly hides it well from humans, as long as it is on the right sort of background. Whether it works so well with birds or small mammals I'm not sure. This morning I had a few more moths in the trap, despite the cold night, and this Buff-tip stood out by a mile on the white walls of the trap. It is now spending the day safely inside my garden shed.
