Stormy weather approaching the Port Hills

There were some dramatic clouds over the Port Hills around the middle of the day, as the southwesterly came in, but by the time I got to the Summit Road the spectacular cumulus had dissipated.

From the look of these clouds, though, not everywhere escaped without a shower.

The weather was quite different at the other end of the hills.  I have added an extra photo to show the blue sky in that direction.  It was lovely up on the hill.  We are fortunate that at present the road running under the gondola is closed to motorised traffic owing to earthquake damage, so the area is very quiet.  The road has been cleared sufficiently that it is now passable to walkers and cyclists who don't have to worry about traffic.  Tourist operators are keen for the road to open again, so the opportunity for bikers and walkers is only temporary.
