Horgabost

His Lordship is not an island man. I am an island woman. He is depressed by the sight of solitary houses set in a bleak landscape. I enjoy wondering what it would be like living a rural existence with a shared community spirit and able perhaps to live a creative life. I will never know.

The island mini bus bus hurtled us down narrow roads this morning from the heady village bustle of Tarbert ( not Loch Fyne!) across to the west coast of Harris and down to Leverburgh for the ferry to Benbecula and North Uist.
The west coast of Harris is very different from the east; wide sweeping expanses of cream coloured sand at Scarista and Horgabost replacing stone covered hillsides and lochs at every turn. The weather also seemed kinder with some blue patches in the sky.

We are heading for Kilbride in South Uist to stay overnight at an inn a stone's throw from Eriskay and passing Lochboisdale and Loch Maddy en route.

Addendum: having arrived at the Polochar Inn we are informed that our booked room is out of action because of a flood and we have to get a taxi to a guest house 4 miles away ........ The military planning for this week has been sadly dented........

Addendum+
Well in fact our guest house is amazing, but unfortunately not on the beach with the wild flower machair to walk on. HL has calmed down and apart from having to get the taxi back to the Polochar Inn to meet up with a friend for a meal date, all is well
