Château ruins, Domfront, Normandy

Domfront is a small Norman town with the ruins of a once very large castle; in the Middle Ages it was very important as it guarded routes north and south. The castle was even the setting of the attempts to reconcile Thomas Beckett and King Henry. However, it was blown up about the time of the Revolution. Its grounds are now a delightful park. Beside the castle is the mediaeval heart of the town.
Some of the people on the level area on the left were a group practising Tai Chi!
We stayed at the municipal campsite, kept immaculate by a good lady who has been running it, she says, for 20 years! Highly recommended as a place to stop for the night - within easy reach of Cherbourg.
