Beer Brothers

We've had a very brief visit from two of Yorkshire's finest -- drmackem (A) and his wife L -- who spent last night here and part of today before beginning their holiday in British Columbia and the east coast of the United States.

It's always wonderful meeting Blip friends face-to-face, having followed their journals for several years and each of us knowing a fair amount about the other's life. There's no awkwardness, just an easy move into a richer relationship in three dimensions and "real time. "

Despite their long journey, A and L were wonderful company at supper last night, during which the four of us shared some of our "before Blip" histories, as well as current interests and future possibilities. Today Phil and I took them to some of our favorite places in Bellingham, including Fairhaven, Marine Park, and Squalicum Harbor, where I took the extra photo of A and L. The "beer brothers" particularly relished their time perusing the multitude of beers at Elizabeth Station (see the other extra photo) and having a sample of one of the draft beers (today's blip). (You can see A and his choices in Phil's blip.)

Lunch al fresco at The Copper Hog rounded out the tour, and all too soon we had to say "goodbye for now" to A and L, as well as "many thanks" for the "tastes of Yorkshire" they gave us, which will show up in a blip here soon.

I cannot think of a better way to meet kindred spirits than through Blipfoto, and am immensely grateful to the team that began this community, as well as to the unseen folks who are keeping it going.

[Added June 13: I hope you'll follow the link in the first paragraph above to A's journal and read his June 12 entry about their brief visit with us. (I was unable to add a direct link to it here.) It's is one of the most beautifully written narratives I've ever read, particularly the first paragraph, which leads so gently into the rest of the story.]
