East Vows Beacon

This remarkable structure was built in 1846 to mark rocks near Elie. The cage at the top is intended as a refuge for shipwrecked mariners. The Bass Rock is visible in the distance. My extra photo shows a view over Earlsferry, and the beacon is can just be seen.

We walked from Leven to Elie. After the sunshine of the last few days, the weather was miserable - cold and wet. However it did at least stop raining after lunch. We saw gannets diving in the bay while we waited for the bus back to Leven.
