Street Musicians

What a joy it was to take a stroll in the sunshine through Romsey today.
Oh yes, there were the usual busy Saturday afternoon shoppers, the market was winding down, and there in the main street, The Hundred was the sound of a saxophone.
Street music is thankfully still alive in this corner of Hampshire, and what a difference his melody made to the Saturday afternoon bustle. And plenty of passers by appeared to share my thoughts, stopping to drop a coin or two as they passed.
A few years ago my grandson took to the High Street in Winchester along with a group of violinists, and I thought then, that street musicians were to be  encouraged as part of the fabric of town and city entertainment life. Sadly, he did not pursue the musical aspirations he held then.
So full marks to my unknown friend in Romsey today for adding inspiring tones to the town's culture.
Each year the town hosts a weekend music festival when music groups, bands, entertainers and musicians play in the streets and many of the town's pubs.
But to me today,  to unexpectedly hear the tones of the sax in the main street was exhilarating.
