11th Century aquaduct

The spring water that we collected last week flows to Xativa via the Arcaetes d’Alboi, an aqueduct 200 meters in length, built in the 11th century by the city’s Arabic rulers. The waters originate in Negra, or Black Cave, named after the color of its walls. Neanderthal remains and wall paintings dating from over 46,000 years ago have been discovered there but I didn’t manage to get that far although I had a rare old scramble down through the woods to get this far.
