Post-Wedding Merriment - Newcastle Mansion House

Today we had a lovely celebration of our son's wedding 3 weeks ago, for those guests who couldn't make it across to the US for the ceremony itself.

We were really lucky to be able to hire the Mansion House for the occasion. The Mansion House was owned by a wealthy industrialist Sir Arthur Munro Sutherland, 1st Baronet, and is one of the most impressive residential properties in Jesmond. Built in 1887, the property was bequeathed to the city by Sutherland in 1953 and is now the official residence of the Lord Mayor and can be used for private events. It is actually run as a charitable trust, the City Council being the Trustee. We even had the luxury of using the 5 bedrooms overnight, including one which was used many years ago by King Olaf of Norway.

It's a fabulous building, with lots of oak panelling inside and a very impressive staircase - I'll add an extra picture of that.
