Alms Houses and Lord Edward Manners

Yet another glorious day in Bakewell!!! Not.
Today I attended the official unveiling of the plaque to commemorate the renovation and opening of the Bakewell Alms Houses on South church Street.
Here's a little bit of Wiki info on Alms houses.

Almshouses are charitable housing provided to enable people (typically elderly people who can no longer work to earn enough to pay rent) to live in a particular community. They are often targeted at the poor of a locality, at those from certain forms of previous employment, or their widows, and are generally maintained by a charity or the trustees of a bequest.

It's been a monumental effort in raising £350,000 for their renovation and as they were originally built by the Manners family of Haddon Hall it was very appropriate that Lord Edward was there.
A lovely little ceremony was followed by a buffet lunch at my favourite Bakewell restaurant 'Pie Daniel'
I'd never met Lord Edward before but managed to have a brief chat about angling where I congratulated him on the fantastic job that he was doing with the fishing on the river Wye.
He's a keen angler so he left wishing me with the age old fishing adage of 'Tight Lines'.
