After Le Mans

When it's over for another year - the world famous 24-hour motor race, that is - much of the track where the drivers were reaching speeds of over 200 mph at the weekend is reverted to public roads for the start of a new week.

So we took our weekend cottage-on-wheels, aka Volkswagen California campervan, for a sedate drive along the Mulsanne and Indianapolis Straights and round Arnage bend this morning. It felt spooky to be driving where the race took place, on Tarmac still scarred with black rubber tyre marks from where the action happened.

Just as well it was a drive at modest velocity today. Gendarmes were tucked down a side turning, awaiting any Monday road drivers who might be tempted to emulate the weekend action!
