Basilica di Santa Maria

Our last day in Rome!

We were heading to the airport late in the afternoon, so we didn't want to stray too far from the train station for our transfer. Nearby to the Termini is the National Museum of Rome which was great, not least because it had air conditioning and I was starting to get fed up with the 30 degree + heat (I am Scottish after all!).
Lots of interesting things to look at with a focus on ancient Roman tombstones and what they can tell us about the life of the person they are for,
The museum itself is set in the ancient Roman bathhouse so there was also an interesting computer generated exhibit on what the baths looked like so when you were walking around it was easy to work out what had been what.
In the Frigidarium part of the baths, the Basilica di Santa Maria deli Angeli was built into the existing walls during the medieval period which was the final part of our visit.
Long journey back to Scotland, getting to bed just before 4am. Can't believe all that we have fit into this week!
