Phew! Rock n' Roll!

I hit the road to Cumbria today for a relaxing break at my friend Mel's place near Ulverston (birthplace of Stan Laurel).

The M6 might not have the romance of Route 66 and the Bank Holiday weekend traffic was a bit of a pain - the whole world was apparently heading for Blackpool! - but Mel had procured tickets for a band that neither of us knew anything about but sounded 'up our street'. They turned out to be Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams (AKA The Grand Slambovians) and they were indeed up our street and really rather brilliant!

Tonight, my friends, Broughton-in-Furness was the centre of the rock n' roll universe!

Something about this picture of the apparently faceless frontman, Joziah Longo, reminds me of Captain Beefheart's 'Trout Mask Replica' album cover...
