Mid Winter

A local landscape  - most of the snow from the farmlands has thawed thankfully, but the foothills are still well covered.  A metre and half of snow has closed roads to Tekapo and the McKenzie Country.
The sun squeezed through late this afternoon, up until then it had been very dreary but not raining.  Yesterday and overnight we measured 46 mm which is just brilliant for us country folk.

Went out for a lovely lunch (salmon on potato mash with pesto dressing) with friends from our district before heading to a one of the retirement homes (I'm not there yet) to view incredible knitwear, rugs, etc which has all been done locally and sent to orphanages in Moldova. This is a huge project throughout NZ - the large container will arrive just before Christmas, just imagine the excitement when they unpack.
This is done yearly, a heartwarming and fulfilling project.
