The Olympic Torch comes to Glasgow

I managed to catch the Torch Relay in Shawlands on the southside of Glasgow this afternoon. I arrived early and found a good vantage point on the raised part of the Arcade, looking up Kilmarnock Road. Crowds were gathering, spectators standing on the roof of a restaurant, and one chap on top of his car to get a good view. Lots of cheering and flag waving, I think there were more Saltires than Union Jacks.

Having witnessed the Tour de France and all the hype that comes before the cyclists, I was a bit disappointed. Just Coca-Cola, Samsung and Bank of Scotland vehicles before the police cars and the torch.

Interesting to see the Relay though, and lovely to bump into friends in the crowd who are back home after trips to Hawaii and New Zealand. This just added to the international feel of the day.
