This is the clock outside what was John Dickinson's paper mill in town, it closed some years ago now and most of the site was redeveloped but quite a lot of the buildings and machinery were kept and now is a visitor attraction because it is the oldest surviving mechanised paper mill in the world,  (not producing paper now ), and their Basildon Bond note paper was famous world wide at one time. The clock is quite a local landmark.
